“He forgives whom He wills.” (Al-Fath 48: 14)

Sometimes Shaytan puts this misconception in minds that for Allah to forgive us and overlook our shortcomings is almost impossible as (na’udhu billah) there isn’t any set yardstick. But is it possible that the Most Just could ever allow such a thing? Never.

Allah (swt) pinpoints in 41 places in the Qur’an the exact traits of those whom He chooses to forgive. Let’s take a look at them:

– Giving sadaqah, especially secretly (1)
– Following the Prophet’s صلى الله عليه وسلم path (2)
– Dying in the path of Allah (3)
– Staying away from major sins (4)
– Believing in the tenets of faith (5)
– Doing good deeds (6)
– Establishing prayer (7)
– Giving Zakat (8)
– Believing in Allah’s Messengers (9)
– Supporting Allah’s Messengers (10)
– Sincerely repenting after making a mistake and then also correcting one’s self (11)
– Taqwa (God-consciousness) (12)
– Accepting Islam (13)
– Doing Hijrah (14)
– Fighting in the path of Allah (15)
– Giving refuge and help to struggling believers (16)
– Patience (17)
– Forgiving others (18)
– Chastity (19)
– Submitting to Allah (20)
– Obedience to Allah (21)
– Speaking the truth (22)
– Humbleness (23)
– Fasting (24)
– Remembering Allah in abundance (25)
– Taking care of one’s parents in the best possible way (26)
– Making dua to Allah to allow us to be grateful to Him and do what’s pleasing to Him, and also making dua for one’s offspring that they be righteous (27)
– Responding to the call of Allah (28)
– Being respectful to the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم

– Believing in Allah (31)
– Fearing Allah (32)
– Worshipping Allah (33)
– Obeying Allah’s Messenger (34)
